Should Food Stamps Cover Dog Food?

I know a lot of people that consider their pets to be family, some of my friends even refer to their dogs or cats as their "children." I also know a lot of people (myself included), that say having a pet is a choice. So if you choose to have a pet - who should have to pay for its food? 

An organization called SNAP - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has started a petition that asks that SNAP benefits include pet food. So far, the online petition has received over 100,000 signatures. What are your thoughts?
