Fructose Bad For Your Brain

A diet high in fructose slows the brain and hampers memory and learning, researchers at the University of California. A spokesmen at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, said high-fructose corn syrup -- an inexpensive liquid six times sweeter than cane sugar -- is commonly added to processed foods, including soft drinks, condiments and baby food.

Grand Rapids Is Beer City

Voting for the annual Beer City USA poll is over. With almost 56,000 votes cast for 31 different American cities the results are that Grand Rapids and Asheville, North Carolina topped the poll with a tie.

Both cities are being awarded Beer City USA 2012.

Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn, Bassist For Booker T. & the MG’s, Dies At 70‎

Donald "Duck" Dunn, one of the most important bass players in the history of Rock & Roll, passed away in his sleep at the age of 70 Sunday in Tokyo. Duck  and guitarist Steve Cropper were high school classmates who joined Stax Records in Memphis in the early Sixties to play with Booker T. & The MGs — whose "Green Onions" became an immediate hit.

The Child Advocacy Center Of Lapeer Fundraiser

Head to the Lapeer Country Club on Friday, May 18th at 7:00 pm to enjoy live entertainment along with beer and wine sampling.  It’s the second annual "Corkscrews and Brews" beer and wine tasting event. The event is raising money for The Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer with silent and live auctions.

The third annual Lapeer Walk for Lupus is happening on Sunday, May 20 at Rowden Park in Lapeer. The “Memory Mile” walk event is being held in honor of Timberly Ranshaw, who passed away after being diagnosed with lupus. The event raises awareness of the disease and funds to help patients.
