Slash Says Having Steady Band Makes Upcoming Album ‘Very Focused’

Slash seems to be in constant motion, never staying in one place too long. The former Guns N’ Roses guitarist recently began the recording of his second solo album, and details of how it sounds are beginning to leak out.

Slash’s touring band, including vocalist Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, has joined him in the studio. The group is rounded out by rhythm guitarist Bobby Schneck, bassist Todd Kerns and drummer Brent Fitz, formerly of Theory Of A Deadman.

As Slash explains, “Myles is out with Alter Bridge tearing up the U.K. right now, so the three of us with our producer, the über-talented Eric Valentine, have been chipping away at a whole batch of new songs.”

Having a solid band behind him this go round has led to what Slash calls “a more unified sound, especially with one vocal(ist) all throughout.” He goes on to call his current mates “a great band from the start — definitely worth going in and making a record with.”

Some of the songs worked on thus far include ‘Bad Rain,’ ‘Standing In The Sun’ and ‘Halo’. Kerns describes the latter this way: “If you’re gonna listen to ‘Halo,’ make sure you have your home insurance paid up ’cause it’ll rip the roof off.’ More positive response came from Eddie Trunk, co-host of VH1′s ‘That Metal Show,’ who declared, “the three songs I heard are heavy with killer riffs and vocals. Really strong!”

As for the musical direction of the new material, the top-hatted one said, “This one’s definitely very focused… very hard. Some of it’s very heavy.”

You’re highly unlikely to see Slash at any of the current Guns N’ Roses tour dates, but between his former band’s presumed induction to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, and his new album, 2012 could be another great year for everyone’s favorite curly-haired rock star.
