Right now is the time of year that Michigan is most likely for wildfires. All too often someone innocently burning leaves, brush, or other trash begins the fire that grows into a wildfire. Farm and rural dwellings are the highest risk for these wildfires. Spring is so dangerous because of the accumulation of dried combustible materials left from the winter months.

MSU Firewise suggests that composting those materials instead of burning them is much safer. If you must burn, get a burning permit and make sure water is nearby!
