Here’s video from The Beatles performance on September 6, 1964 at the former home of the Detroit Red Wings. The Bill Black Combo, The Exciters, Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry and Jackie DeShannon were other acts on the bill. Bed sheets slept on by the Fab Four from the Whittier Hotel were bought by a Chicago TV station, cut into one-inch squares, mounted on the following letter from the hotel manager and sold to fans for $1: “To whom it may concern: This is to certify that the ‘Beatles’ stayed at the Whittier Hotel, arriving at 1:17 a.m. on Sept. 6, 1964 (Detroit Time), occupying Executive Suite No. 1566, checking out at 2:55 p.m. on Sept. 6, 1964. This is also to certify that the bed linen so designated is authentic and factual as to each of the ‘Beatles’ using same.” Next to each piece of linen was the notation “John Slept Here,” “Paul Slept Here,” “George Slept Here” or “Ringo Slept Here.”
