If you’re looking for fun for the whole family, there’s no better place to be on Labor Day weekend than the Michigan Peach Festival of Romeo. Although a bitter cold winter wiped out the majority of peach tree buds in the southeast Michigan peach-growing region of Lapeer, Macomb and Oakland counties, you can still enjoy a slice of homemade peach pie and the farm stands will be full of peaches although they might be from western Michigan. Many peach trees on the west side of the state were protected by lake effect and withstood the bitter cold.

My favorites at the festival are the Scottish pipe and drum band in the parade and the beers from around the world in the refreshment tent. For more information and a festival schedule, go to peachfestromeo.com.
