Riding on the coattails of The Beatles and the first wave of the British invasion of rock and roll in America . The Rolling Stones lead the second wave and establish their presence in the U.S.A. with the bands first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show that happened this week in 1964.
The Rolling Stones weren't accepted with open arms like The Beatles were. Parents across the country let the producers of the show and CBS TV know that they were not happy with what they saw on their their TV sets at home. The upset adults sent letters made phone calls with many saying they would never watch the show again.
The management of CBS would make a promise to the grown ups that The Rolling Stones would never appear on Ed Sullivan stage again. But the promise would be broken a few weeks later with the Stones once again doing their thing.
