The Tigers lost one of the heroes from the 1968 World Series winning team.  Jim Northrup, versatile outfielder with the Tigers for eleven seasons, died Wednesday after a lengthy illness.  He was 71.  Northrup is perhaps best known to Tiger fans for a two-out, bases-loaded triple in the top of the seventh off St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson in the seventh game of the 1968 World Series.  His hit broke a scoreless tie and propelled the Tigers to a 4 - 1 victory and the World Series championship.
