Long before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks entered the picture, Fleetwood Mac was a triumph of British blues. Formed in 1967 by guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, all of whom had recently left John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, guitarist Jeremy Spencer was added shortly thereafter. Deeply indebted to the likes of Elmore James and Robert Johnson, the band began life as purveyors of pure blues. Fleetwood Mac and Mr. Wonderful, their first two albums, were classic blues. By the time of their third album, released on September 19, 1969, things were beginning to move in more interesting directions.
