Tommy Lee from Motley Crue has asked SeaWorld San Diego to stop using his band's music in its nightly "Shamu Rocks" shows. Tommy in his letter to SeaWorld said, "Although we like to torture the human fans who willingly come to our shows, we don't want to be a part of making innocent animals' lives hellish... Whales are not head-bangers, so stop cranking the music and take one small step toward improving their welfare." Tommy notes that noises louder than 70 decibels are "considered too loud and nerve-racking for the animals" because whales, which communicate by sonar, are very sensitive to sound. According to Tommy Lee the music at "Shamu Rocks" shows can reach 90 decibels.
