After years and a number of Emmys earned playing obsessive-compulsive USA detective ‘Monk,’ Tony Shalhoub has his pick of the litter when it comes to new roles. Is it any wonder then, that he’d eye a return to comedy on the TV landscape’s most popular network for comedy, CBS? But who might the character actor play following the fastidious Adrian Monk, and what show would bring him back to the small screen?

According to TVLine, Emmy-winner Tony Shalhoub has selected his next TV project, even if said project has yet to select its own name! The former ‘Monk’ star will take a regular role on CBS’ new untitled Rob Greenberg sitcom pilot, formerly developed under the title ‘Ex-Men.’ The half-hour project centers on a charming young man (‘Paranormal Activity 3‘ star Chris Smith), who moves into a short-term housing complex and befriends a group of divorced men after being left at the altar by his fiancée.

Shalhoub will take the role of Frank, a four-time divorcé who still considers himself a ladies man and dwells specifically in the complex’s bachelor pad. Also starring is ‘Harold and Kumar‘ star Kal Penn as a man divorced following an affair. Penn just wrapped up a stint on ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ season 7, which Rob Greenberg also executive produces.

What say you? Do you think Tony Shalhoub can bring the same charm to the CBS sitcom as he did for ‘Monk?’ What new CBS shows are you most looking forward to? Give us your pics in the comments below!
