Even though Dee Snider said that Twisted Sister would "probably continue" following last week's death of drummer AJ Pero, another member of the band is suggesting otherwise. In a new interview, guitarist Jay Jay French said that the group had been considering breaking up in the days before Pero's passing.

As French told Eddie Trunk, "I had to call him because I had to bring him up to date on what’s going on with the band. I said, ‘We've got to sit down and plan what we're going to do, because we've got this DVD in Vegas that's supposed to be filmed at the end of May. And the band's thinking about putting a plan together to figure out if maybe it's time to bow out.'”

But before they could make that decision, French continued, they had to get through the show in Las Vegas on May 30, followed by some European festival dates. Once that's done, "We’ll discuss getting through the shows in Europe this year. And then we’ll talk about the long term, which is, 'Is 2016 going to be a statement year for us?' It's the 40th anniversary of me, Dee and [guitarist] Eddie Ojeda getting together. It may be time. It may be."

Pero died of a heart attack on March 20 while on tour with Adrenaline Mob. French, with considerable candor, noted that the tragedy has given the dilemma they were facing a new wrinkle. "We are trying to confront the reality of it, because I don’t want to be in this forever," he said. "We could. Some bands are forever in that ozone area and continue to play on. But we need to look at this and say to ourselves, as a live entity, on which our reputation rests, How do we honor that history? How do we honor AJ? And how do we honor the fans’ loyalty?”
