We did have some wild storms blow through here this past weekend, but tornadoes? Dang!

Two tornadoes touched down in Michigan this past weekend, and one of them, I wouldn't have guessed that this would be an occurrence at all. One was in the Metro Detroit area and ended up cutting power to about 11,000 people an causing some damage. But the other one was way up in the Upper Peninsula in Menominee County. That particular twister did extensive damage to a barn and sent a tree through a roof.

The Menominee County tornado is the sixth confirmed tornado in the Upper Peninsula this summer. That seems unusually high, and it is. According to the Tornado History Project, for the season of 2014, there was only one, and years previous tornadoes were nonexistent.
