Velvet Underground Announce ‘White Light / White Heat’ Reissue

Universal Music Enterprises

The Velvet Underground‘s classic 1968 album ‘White Light / White Heat’ celebrates its 45th anniversary this year, and it’s marking the occasion with a massive reissue.

Scheduled for release on Dec. 3, the three-disc ’White Light / White Heat 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition’ features outtakes, unreleased studio songs and live cuts pulled from the influential band’s archives.

The 30-track set includes remastered versions of the original stereo and mono editions of the album, along with bonus tracks pulled from the sessions, like alternate takes and unreleased outtakes.

It also features the official release of the widely bootlegged concert at New York’s the Gymnasium on April 30, 1967. A complete track listing is below.

Group members Lou Reed and John Cale helped prepare the reissue for release, with some of the material coming from the personal of archives of Cale, who quit the band shortly after the album’s completion.

When it was originally released in January 1968, ‘White Light / White Heat’ barely dented the charts, making it to No. 199. All these years later, the album — along with the band’s other three LPs — is considered one of the all-time greats, an influential work that’s inspired countless punk, indie and rock artists.
