An event meant to celebrate hundreds of workers at Vlasic Foods in Imlay City and the community that supports the company is going on now through Sunday, May 13th at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds in Imlay City. Admission, grandstand and parking is free. Carnival rides will be open Friday from 3 PM - 10 PM, Saturday from 2 PM - 10 PM and Sunday from 12 PM - 6 PM. A pickle-eating contest will take place at 3:30 PM on Saturday and a Bump-N-Run Race at 5 PM guarantees a minimum of $1,000 in prize money. Bump-N-Run is free.
Eastern Michigan State Fair Manager Ian Kemp told the County Press “What Vlasic really wants to do, and I appreciate this, is they want to show some appreciation to their employees for all the hard work those folks do, and they want to show some appreciation to the community for supporting them in their endeavors. That’s the driving force behind this." Kemp said “That’s why it’s not called a pickle festival. It’s called the Vlasic Community Fest.  .  .their desire was to give back to the community.”
Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds are located at 195 Midway Street in Imlay City.
