The Kinsey Report, Rocky Lawrence and the Chicago Rhythm & Blues Kings make up the Winter Blues Festival lineup at the PIX Theatre in downtown Lapeer tonight and Saturday.
Things get underway tonight at 7:30 with The Kinsey Report - The Kinsey brothers, vocalist/guitarist Donald, drummer/vocalist Ralph, and bassist/vocalist Kenneth, arrived on the blues scene in 1985 with a winning formula, joining forces with their father to create a signature sound that mixed the traditional with the contemporary. Driven by Donald's soulful vocals and impassioned guitar playing, and the tight, in-sync rhythm section of Ralph and Kenneth, the Kinsey Report created a singular sound that caught the attention of blues fans worldwide.

Saturday afternoon at 2:30 enjoy Rocky Lawrence - The Delta is calling . . Come to the crossroads . . .Rocky Lawrence heard that call when he put down his electric guitar, picked up his acoustic and started the odyssey into the songs, music and life of the founding father of Rock & Roll, Mr. Robert Johnson. For three years, fifteen hours a day, seven days a week, Rocky learned and relearned every note, every tuning, every vocal inflection of the fabled 29 songs. The songs had to be exact. These were Robert's songs played and sung as if Robert was alive today sitting on a stool at a Mississippi roadhouse. Mr. Lawrence currently tours the country educating University students o the historical significance of the Robert Johnson songbook as it relates to the history of popular music worldwide.

The festival wraps up Saturday night at 7:30 with the Chicago Rhythm & Blues Kings.  The band has been delighting fans across the United States, Canada and Europe for over twenty years now with their smooth and funky blend of horn-driven blues and soul music. Formerly the Mellow Fellows, CRBK came out of Carbondale, Illinois in the early 1970's as the backing band for the acclaimed Larry "Big Twist" Nolan. Performing music in the great American soul tradition of Ray Charles, Little Milton, Hank Ballard and Junior Parker.
