The ice along the shoreline of Lake Michigan is no longer safe because of the recent warm temperatures, but you can still see some of the state's most spectacular ice caves right here!

Michigan is truly beautiful in any season, but this winter's punishing snow and cold has resulted in some stunning, and rare ice caves along the shoreline of Lake Michigan.

Here is another video illustrating the remarkable beauty of the ice caves. Listen for an explanation of how they're formed as well.

Tom Auch, a photography teacher at Northwestern University, was given a tip about the phenomenon of the ice caves, just north of Leland, from a local resident. He and a videographer friend, George Meredith, recently went to see for themselves and were astounded by the 20 -30 foot tall caves, some as big as garages.
