Over 1.5 million Michiganders are expected to travel to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday next week, the most since 2007.

According to AAA, this marks the seventh consecutive year of growth for Thanksgiving travel and is nearly a one-percent increase from last year. Brent Stahlheber, Sr. Vice President of Brand Marketing and Travel for AAA, says "Americans still place a high premium on being with family for Thanksgiving. Improvements in the economy and low gas prices should generate an increase in holiday travelers."

Of the Michiganders traveling 50 miles or more, 1.35 million are expected to travel by automobile of which Susan Hiltz, Public Affairs Director at AAA Michigan says "our holiday gift has come early this year in the form of lower gas prices. Michiganders can be thankful for what will likely be the lowest Thanksgiving gas prices since 2008."

Nationally, nearly 42 million Americans will take a holiday road trip this Thanksgiving.
