This week in 1968, The Jimi Hendrix Experience second album the collection called Axis: Bold as Love made it up to #3 on the album charts and would hold onto that position for three weeks.
From a interview in the March 9, 1968 Rolling Stone Magazine Jimi had this to say about the title of his new album. "I just thought about the title. There might be a meaning behind the whole thing: The Axis of the earth turns around and changes the face of the world and completely different civilizations come about or another age comes about. In other words, it changes the face of the earth and it only takes about 1/4 of a day. Well, the same with love; if a cat falls in love or a girl falls in love, it might change his whole complete scene: Axis, Bold as Love . . . 1-2-3 rock around the clock." Now that's some heavy stuff.
'If 6 Was 9' is one of the 13 cool tracks on the LP. Here's a little bit of the song as it appeared in the movie 'Easy Rider' with Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson.
