Big Payday For Jimi Hendrix
On this day June 20, 1969, the 3-day Newport '69 Festival began. An estimated 150,000 made it in to hear Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Steppenwolf and others. Hendrix received $125,000 for his appearance — the highest fee ever paid to a single rock act for one appearance at that time.
