Birthday Parties, College Funds, And Coffee Mugs – Steve’s Daddy Tips 12-12-18
Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!
Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!
- The first daddy tip of the week is for your little one’s first birthday party! Instead of asking people to bring cards for your birthday girl or boy, tell them to bring a book and write a note in it. It’s an awesome way to collect memories from their birthday without having to hold on to a bunch of birthday cards. Plus it’s a great way to get extra presents for your little one. When someone was just planning on buying a toy before, now they are getting your baby a toy AND a book! Boom! Extra presents tip!
- The next daddy tip is to get a college fund started for your little one as soon as possible and a first birthday is a perfect opportunity to collect some money to start a college fund! It’s never a bad idea to talk to a financial planner when starting a college fund, but if they are anything like the financial planner we have at our bank, they’ll just tell you to start a 529 college savings plan. Michigan has an excellent explanation of their 529 plan on the government website. Just google Michigan Education Trust and get started on the website. Easy Peasy!
- And the final daddy tip is to get a mug that either says “Best Dad Ever” or “Best Mom Ever” because you are the best mom or dad ever and you need proof! Plus this joke never gets old… Just grab your mug and walk into a room and say “did you hear, I won the best dad ever award.” Then when everyone is staring at you blankly, you just chuckle “haha” and then say “how else would I have gotten this mug.” The room should explode into an uproar of laughter, but if for whatever reason it doesn’t, just spill the hot coffee on yourself and gracefully exit the room.
And now it’s time for an awesome dad joke!
Q: Why do fish live in saltwater?
A: Because living in pepper water makes them sneeze!
