Can Miggy Make a Believer Out of Us?

Yesterday, I wrote a post asking what the Detroit Tigers are going to do with the Miggy situation. And what does he do in the game last night? Two hits. One being a home run.

Miggy needs 128 hits for 3000 and 11 home runs for 500. He’s a sure lock for a first ballot Hall of Famer. But his contract and lack of production has been a large issue. Also, he’s been hurt a lot in the past few years.

I’m also sick and tired of other media members saying that he showed up in Lakeland in shape. First of all, when you make $30 million a year, you better always be in shape. It’s a running joke that isn’t that funny.

So, can Miggy turn it around? That’s what we are all hoping. I can only hope the Tigers new manager AJ Hinch had a private talk with Miggy and stressed he’s the veteran on the ball club and they need his leadership, not comedy and screwing around.

The Tigers payroll is at $80 million and Miggy's salary eats up $30 million of it. The Tigers are on the hook for another $70 plus million that is guaranteed salary. This is not a good situation, but it wouldn't be as bad if he could start hitting a little bit more.

Can Miggy make a believer out of the fans and media? I have to keep an open mind on this. What do you think? Can he change his past style of play and be more consistent and, most of all, stay healthy? We can only wait and see.
