A waste collection company that Flint Mayor Karen Weaver wants to sign to a five-year deal is a key player in a Macomb County corruption case.

According to The Detroit Free Press, Rizzo Environmental Services is at the center of a federal public corruption case that could involve "numerous local public officials in Macomb County in alleged pay-to-play schemes." Rizzo is reportedly cooperating with government officials after getting caught allegedly paying bribes.

The report also says that sources have named Rizzo as the unnamed company that the FBI says paid between $50,000 and $70,000 in cash bribes for help in securing a lucrative contract. On Thursday, Clinton Township Trustee Dean Reynolds was charged with bribery for allegedly accepting cash in exchange for his vote on an $18 million contract that went to the bribe giver. The Clinton Township supervisor says he could only think of the Rizzo deal as one that would be that high.

Meanwhile here in Flint, Mayor Weaver has gone to court with the City Council over giving a five-year deal to Rizzo over Republic Services which had been collecting trash in Flint for the past few years. Former Mayor Woodrow Stanley is said to be receiving a consultant fee to the tune of ten percent of the bid, around $1.7 million.

Something stinks around here and it isn't just the garbage.
