Flint’s Own Claressa Shields Signs MMA Contract

Flint boxing champ, Claressa Shields, has decided to take on the world of mixed martial arts.

The Professional Fighters League has just announced the signing of Flint's own Claressa Shields. In case you didn't know, the Flint native is a 25-year-old, three-division boxing world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist in boxing. So far in her career, she has won all of her fights since turning pro in 2016.

Claressa will now be looking to take home some championships in the world of mixed martial arts. Fans will be able to catch her in action in a series of special attraction fights in 2021 with the Professional Fighters League and she will enter the 2022 PFL season.

Shields wants to add to her accolades and simultaneously hold world championships in boxing and MMA. Her impressive resume already boasts two Olympic gold medals and she is the fastest boxer to earn titles in three different divisions. Shields is an advocate for youth development and women's rights and was voted the 'SportsWoman of the Year' by the Women's Sports Foundation in 2016.
