Freddie Mercury to Become an Angry Bird
Late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury is being honored in the most amazing of ways, and not just by having Sacha Baron Cohen portray him in an biopic. The vocalist is now an honorary member of the Angry Birds family.
The avian avatar is a part of the Freddie For a Day annual celebration, which is in its third year and is timed around his date of birth. Mercury, who was born on Sept. 5, will be celebrated beginning today (Sept. 3), as the all-new animation figure Freddie the Angry Bird. You can watch the video of Freddie as an Angry Bird, riding his bicycle to the tune of Queen’s ‘Bicycle Race.’ below.
What else does it take to celebrate Freddie For a Day? Well, fans can emulate him and wear Mercury signatures, like leather, leotards, aviator shades or that hallmark bushy black mustache!
Additionally, a special Freddie For a Day fundraising event will be hosted by surviving Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. For the second year in a row, friends and celebs will gather at the Savoy in London in Mercury’s honor. He will be remembered and funds will be raised for the Mercury Phoenix Trust – Fighting AIDS Worldwide.
To help raise even further awareness for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, Angry Birds and Bravado, the merchandising company, will partner up to release a limited edition Freddie Mercury Angry Bird t-shirt, which will be available at both their websites. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the Trust. The shirts are incredibly limited, so if you absolutely love seeing Mercury immortalized in Angry Bird form, nab one ASAP!
