For the fourth year in a row, Lapeer County veterans will be admitted free to the Eastern Michigan State Fair thanks to Kroger of Imlay City.
Veterans displaying proper ID will receive free admission all day on Thursday, July 26.
The Lapeer County Department of Veterans Affairs as well as the VFW will have service officers on site to explain benefits to veterans attending the fair. They will be stationed at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Center located outside the Main Gate. Veterans must present proper identification at that location to receive free admission. Acceptable ID includes a DD 214, VA Health ID Card, membership card from a chartered Veterans Service Organization or a state driver’s license bearing the Veteran Designation.
Mobile Vet units house a satellite dish that connects to communications and audio-visual equipment, six phone lines, a fax line, notebook computers, four encrypted computer lines and a wireless network. These customized vehicles – which are equipped with confidential counseling space and a state of the art communication package—travel to communities to extend VA’s reach to veterans, service members and their families, especially those living in rural or remote communities.
