Well if this doesn't sound like the Grinch is about to crush 2021, I don't know what does.

We aren't even through Halloween, and the Christmas panic is setting in. With all the talk of shipping delays and product shortages, the news has been filled with warnings to shop early for those gifts to make sure you are all set for December 25th. As if that wasn't enough to send you into a tinsel tizzy, there is a good chance we are going to see a Christmas tree shortage this year.

According to the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA), you are going to want to pick that perfect tree sooner than later because supplies may be pretty low. In a statement the ACTA mentions that the cause of the shortage is due to "unprecedented weather events in the Pacific Northwest, including fires, drought, and heat waves, have impacted live Christmas tree crop yields, with some Oregon farmers reporting losing up to 90% of their crop this summer."

“We hope that every person who wants a Christmas tree will find their perfect tree this year,” said ACTA Executive Director Jami Warner. “If I can give one piece of advice to consumers right now, it is to find and buy your Christmas tree early. "

If you're thinking you'll be able to ride the shortage out by going with a artificial tree this year, hold up. Seems there may be a shortage looming in the fake tree world as well. As with many consumer industries, due to COVID-19 and supply chain woes, coupled with increased demand for consumer goods there could be some problems ahead. That means that  supply chain overload could result in  fewer artificial trees available for purchase this holiday season, and those that are available may cost quite a bit more.

The upside is that Michigan happens to be one of the largest Christmas tree producers in the country, and buying local is always best. You can click here to see the best retail lots, and choose & cut farms in the state.
