The Center for the Arts of Greater Lapeer, in cooperation with Michigan Humanities Council, presents Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America, a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program.

The Hometown Teams exhibit will open with a Pep Rally on Court Street outside Gallery 194 on June 11, 2016 from 1:00-4:00pm. There will be a Proclamation Ceremony at 2:00 pm, the mayor and city commission have proclaimed that June 11, 2016 will be Hometown Teams Day in the city of Lapeer. The Center for the Arts will be serving free hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts and Cracker Jack, first come, first served. There will be games for kids and adults, a make your own sports card booth and the Smithsonian exhibit along with the local sports history exhibits will be open to the public.
The Local exhibits will be located in Gallery 194, the Lapeer County Heritage Museum, Marguerite deAngeli Library and the businesses along Nepessing Street.
The Center for the Arts and the surrounding community were expressly chosen by the Michigan Humanities Council to host Hometown Teams as part of the Museum on Main Street program—a national/state/local partnership to bring exhibitions and programs to rural cultural organizations.
