Five holes were drilled into the skull of an elderly woman and the right side of her skull sawed off. The problem is the hospital performed a brain operation on the wrong patient. The Belleville grandmother went to Dearborn Oakwood Hospital for a simple jaw procedure to seek some relief for TMJ but never made it out alive. The hospital claimed they did not breach the standard of care and never reported its mistake to the state of Michigan according to attorney Geoffrey Fieger. A jury disagreed and awarded a $21 million verdict against Oakwood Hospital. “If this was done by somebody with a hammer or hatchet instead of a scalpel” said Fieger “they would be in prison for murdering Bimla Nayyar.”
