A fire Tuesday in an Imlay City mobile home that killed four children and hospitalized three other family members has left the community devastated and wondering how they can help.

A benefit account has been opened at Lakestone Bank & Trust. If you would like to help the family, you can donate to the account at any office of Lakestone Bank & Trust. Make checks payable to The benefit of the Whitney/Kelley Family. Checks can also be mailed to Lakestone Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 250, Lapeer, MI 48446.The family is asking that monetary donations be made through the bank rather than GoFundMe pages according to police because it cannot be verified that all online fundraisers will give money to the family.

Imlay City Kroger will be holding a fundraising event on Friday, March 1, 11 AM - 5 PM, Saturday, March 2, 12 PM - 5 PM and Sunday, March 3, 11 AM - 5 PM. Purchase a hot dog, chips and pop for $3. All proceeds will benefit the family.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Imlay City is taking donations of goods and will store them for the family. The church is located at 200 N. Cedar Street in Imlay City. The phone number at St. Paul Lutheran Church is 810-724-1200.

Fraternal Order of Eagles #4082, located at 170 S. Almont Avenue in Imlay City, is planning a fundraising event for the family on Sunday, March 10, at 3 PM. Dinner is $10. Raffles, 50/50 and an auction will be held. Anyone interested in donating is asked to call 810-724-1954.
