
Interactive Map Shows Where COVID Variants Are Spreading in Michigan
It's been under three months since the first case of B.1.1.7 was reported in Michigan. Now, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports that there are 1,808 cases of the variant in our state as of yesterday (4/5).
The interactive map below shows where the deadly variants of COVID-19 have been reported in Michigan. Each of the different colored pins represents a different variant. The yellow pin represents the number of cases reported at the Michigan Department of Corrections facility in Jackson.
There have been 33 confirmed cases of the B.1.1.7 variant reported here in Genesee County.
Variants of COVID-19 have not proved to be more deadly than coronavirus, however studies suggest that they may spread more easily.
Cases of COVID-19 variants have been reported in Michigan as follows:
- 1,808 Confirmed cases of B.1.1.7
- 7 confirmed cases of the South African COVID-19 variant B.1.351
- 2 confirmed cases of the P.1 variant from Brazil
- Multiple cases of two variants first detected in California, B.1.427 and B.1.429
