In a joint statement from Japan's Olympic Organizing Committee and the International Olympic Committee, both entities agreed to postpone the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo until no later than next summer (2021) because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

This announcement comes after numerous nations announced publicly that they would not participate in the Games due to a lack of preparation for its athletes and worries about the Coronavirus.

This will be the first time the Summer Games have been postponed/canceled since the 1940 and 1944 Games were canceled due to World War II.

The Tokyo Olympics were set to start on July 24th.
