New European-Inspired Restaurant Opens at Grand Rapids Downtown Market

There’s something new at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market to check out!

After 13 years, Aperitivo Wine Bar closed at the market earlier this year. The longtime favorite was known for its charcuterie boards, sandwiches, salads, and wine.

The owner also operates gourmet grocery store Art of the Table and said of Apertivo shutting down, "...we have decided that it’s a good time to focus our effort and simplify our brands."

What Replaced Aperitivo at the Downtown Market?

We knew that Squibb Coffee would be taking over the space, but it's not just a simple expansion. A new restaurant is bringing something different, with a menu inspired by co-owner Mallory Squibb’s recent travels. It's called Sav Sav. They explain on Instagram,

The French word for wild is sauvage. Our new space is taking a page from French cheese counters. And the Squibb family name means volatile, wild.

What’s on the Menu at Sav Sav?

you’ll find a European café-style setup with small plates that are creative but approachable. One item that really stands out to be is a butter plate with French butter, sea salt, and bread from Field and Fire.

Other options include corn and bean hummus, halloumi peach salad, grilled cheese, and Parisian sandwich with prosciutto, pickles, Dijon, and French butter. Choose from a variety of charcuterie boards as well.

Wine plays a big role too! The Sav Sav team has built a list of fun and funky wines—bottles that are intentionally selected to be a little off the beaten path but still totally enjoyable. And yes, Squibb’s signature coffee and espresso drinks are still available, alongside a few new aperitif-based beverages that add something fresh to the lineup.

There’s also a small retail section with preserves, tinned fish, crackers, cookbooks, and other goodies.
