Clean Air Action Day Issued for August 27
The warmer weather has returned to West Michigan and along with it, we are seeing more and more air quality advisories being issued for the area.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued Clean Air Action Day for Tuesday, August 27, 2024. With temperatures expected to climb over 90 degrees, it's not surprising. The advisory has been issued due to elevated levels of ozone.
What Is a Clean Air Action Day?
As previously stated, EGLE issues an air quality advisory when elevated levels of ozone are expected. When those levels are elevated, the atmosphere is deemed to be "unhealthy for sensitive groups"
Which West Michigan Counties Are Under an Air Quality Advisory?
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has issued the advisory for the following counties:
- Allegan
- Berrien
- Cass
- Kent
- Muskegon
- Ottawa
- Van Buren
What Precautions Should Be Taken During a Clean Air Action Day?
Individuals and businesses in the above-listed counties are encouraged to avoid activities that can lead to ozone formation during Clean Air Action Days. Those activities include refueling vehicles and using gas-powered lawn equipment and charcoal lighter fluid.
People are encouraged to carpool, walk, ride a bike, delay or combine errands, and use water-based paints.
Furthermore, EGLE recommends that kids and adults with respiratory diseases like asthma limit their exertion when outside.
