These TV Shows Set in Michigan Deserve a Reboot

Everything that's old is new again, isn't that what people say? And it seems that that has been the case with television and movies over the past few years.

Tons of our favorite shows have been remade or rebooted over the years - Magnum P.I., Roseanne (now called The Conners), and most recently, Matlock.

But, over the years, there have been a ton of TV shows based in Michigan, and darn it, some of them deserve a reboot.

So what are some of the Michigan-based shows that deserve to see new life?

Home Improvement

Maybe I only feel this way because this show was a staple of my childhood and gave me my first childhood crush (looking at you JTT). But seriously, this show was great. It showed the struggles of maintaining relationships with people in the workplace, the highs and lows that come with raising a family, AND there was a wise neighbor added in! Would this premise work in our current time? Hard to say, but it's worth a shot. This time around, Tim "The Toolman" Taylor could do his whole show on YouTube.

Freaks and Geeks

I'll be honest... I kind of forgot that this staple of my teenage years was set in Michigan. Freaks and Geeks launched the careers of so many talented young actors including Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and James Franco.

The show was set in a fictional Michigan town (Chippewa) that was said to be a suburb of Detroit.

8 Simple Rules

Originally titled 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter, this is another show that I remember fondly from my youth. The show starred John Ritter as the dad (Paul), and his wife Cate (Katey Segal), and showed their life raising their teenage kids.

Paul was a columnist for a paper in Detroit (remember newspapers?). The show also helped launch the career of a young Kaley Cuoco.

Sadly, while it did air for three seasons, the show was never the same after the sudden death of John Ritter after the first season.

Sister, Sister

Sister, Sister is the show that introduced the world to Tia and Tamera Mowry (who played themselves on the show. They were a set of twins who were adopted by different families and then - surprise! - accidentally met each other one day.

The show ran from 1995 until 1999, and many of us who loved it are hoping for a reboot someday. It doesn't seem like that's in the cards for now, as the sisters are now both mothers are don't live in close proximity to each other. Tia, though, does currently have a new show Mowry: My Next Act, on WE TV, which shows the star's life after going through her divorce.
