Bye Bye, Barrels – Michigan Road Construction Halted For Holiday Weekend
Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of summer in Michigan, and in preparation for increased traffic on Michigan roadways, as people look to get away to enjoy the weekend, the state of Michigan has announced that road construction will be halted.
In a release, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that MDOT will move orange barrels out of the way and get rid of lane restrictions on 60 percent of the road projects happening throughout the state.
It's not the end of construction season, however - Whitmer said that the state is,
lifting traffic restrictions wherever we can so you can get where you need to go safely and smoothly. But next Tuesday, you better believe that we will be right back to fixing the damn roads.
The barrels will be moved and the restrictions will be paused beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, August 30. The barrels and restrictions will go back in place at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3.

It's important to remember that not all projects will be halted/opened. If you're sticking around West Michigan, I have some bad news for you.
- The eastbound and westbound ramps to M-6 on I-96 will remain closed as will the M-6 ramp to westbound I-96.
- Additionally, the ramps to I-96 and Alpine Ave. on northbound 131 will also remain closed.
- The lane closure from Ann St. to I-96 on NB 131 will also still be in effect.
- The lane closures and traffic shift between 68th St. and 108th St. on 131 will continue, as well.
You can see a full list of the projects that will remain active or have lane restrictions throughout the state over the weekend can be found on the state of Michigan's website.
