The City of Flint is now offering cash rewards for tips that lead to the identification of people illegally dumping trash and tires across the city.

Illegal dumping has been a major problem in Flint for many years. In 2021, Mayor Sheldon Neely announced rewards of $1,000 for tips leading to the arrest of anyone illegally dumping in the city, and $2,000 when the dumping involved tires.

According to ABC 12, the exact reward amount in 2026 has not been revealed.

According to Michigan.gov, scrapped tires are dangerous to the environment and public health.

Runoff from hard-to-extinguish tire fires can contaminate water, and scrap tires are an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry disease such as West Nile Virus.

Flint Police Chief Terrance Green was not mixing words when it comes to illegal dumping,

Flint is not your dumping ground, If you dump here, we will find you, and we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.

How do I report an illegal dumper in the city of Flint?

Anyone with tips regarding illegal dumping can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-422-JAIL, or call the Flint Police Department at 810-237-6957.

Cash always seems to have a way of making people talk, so hopefully, this reward incentive not only generates tips and leads, but also makes people think twice about illegally dumping in the city of Flint out of fear of being arrested.
