Michigan Is Home to the World’s Largest Log Cabin—20,000 Square Feet
The world's largest and most talked-about log cabin is located right here in Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior. This 20,000-square-foot masterpiece is truly one-of-a-kind and will leave you speechless.
Granot Loma Lodge, sitting near Marquette, is perched along the shores of Lake Superior. It’s not just big—it’s jaw-dropping, blending rustic vibes with a whole lot of wow factor.
Built out of Oregon pine in the 1920s, the Granot Loma estate includes 50 rooms, 23 bedrooms, a private marina, a mile-long private beach, an island on Lake Superior, and over 5,000 acres of awe-inspiring wilderness. It's seriously one of the most impressive homes you will ever see.

Before we take you through the magnificent 20,000-square-foot home, let's talk a little bit about its rich history.
Granot Loma was brought to life in the 1920s by Louis Graveraet Kaufman, who went all out, spending over $5 million—a fortune back then. Over 400 Scandinavian craftsmen worked on this massive project. The name "Granot Loma" is a mashup of his family’s names: GRAveraet, Norris, and OTto (his kids), plus LOuis (his own) and MArie (his wife). Talk about a creative family tribute.
Who Currently Owns Granot Loma?
Tom Baldwin, a former Wall Street exec, bought Granot Loma back in the 1980s and has kept it as a private estate ever since. He’s made sure the place stays true to its historic roots while still being a luxurious retreat. Back in 2017, Baldwin tried to sell the lodge for a whopping $40 million, but it didn’t find a buyer at that price. Since then, the property hasn't been listed again, so it looks like Baldwin's still the lucky owner of this massive, one-of-a-kind place.
