Jewel of Grand Blanc and Paddy McGee’s Officially Torn Down
If you’ve driven down Perry Road in Grand Blanc this week, you’ve probably noticed a whole lot of nothing where The Jewel once stood. As of this week, the old clubhouse and Paddy McGee’s Bar and Restaurant are completely gone. After sitting empty for a few years, the demolition finally happened.
In January 2022, news broke that The Jewel of Grand Blanc had been sold to Statewide Management, LLC. Since then, the course, along with Paddy McGee’s Bar and Restaurant, has been closed. Now it’s all gone.
The Jewel of Grand Blanc opened back in 1968 as the Grand Blanc Golf Course and was rebranded in 2009. For decades, it was the go-to spot for weddings, banquets, charity events, and a round of golf. The Free Beer and Hot Wings Show on Banana 101.5 even did a live show there in 2019.
Paddy McGee’s was where plenty of locals ended their nights. There was a time when you could grab a steak dinner while listening to live music on the patio. The place has been closed for years, slowly falling apart while everyone wondered what would become of it.
Now that construction crews have moved in, there’s still a lot of confusion about what’s really happening on the property. Some say part of the land will be turned into a public park with trails and pickleball courts. Others say new homes are being built on the north end. We believe the latter is what's happening as we speak.
Either way, the familiar buildings that became a major eyesore are gone, and a big piece of Grand Blanc’s history is no more.
