Kroger Cutting 1,000 Jobs—But Not Where You Think
Kroger is making some big changes again, and yep, that means another round of layoffs.
The grocery giant is cutting close to 1,000 jobs as part of a restructuring push. And this isn’t the first time this year. Back in February, about 200 people lost their jobs, but this new round is on a whole different level.
This time, though, it’s not the everyday employees you see in the stores.
Kroger Layoffs in 2025
So, who’s being impacted this time around? According to MLive, it’s not the people stocking shelves, running customer service, or ringing up groceries. Nope, it’s the big dogs behind the scenes. The layoffs are aimed at corporate staff, not the folks working in stores, distribution centers, or manufacturing facilities.
CEO Ron Sargent told employees the company has been trying to “simplify the organization, shift resources closer to our customers, and focus on work that creates the most value.” In plain English, that means Kroger is cutting back-office jobs so they can pump more money into the stores.
How Kroger Plans to Spend the Savings
The memo says the money saved will be used to drop prices, open new stores, and add more jobs where it really counts, on the sales floor. They’re really just trying to put the focus back where shoppers will actually notice a difference.

Not long ago, Kroger also said it plans to shut down about 60 stores over the next year and a half, even while dropping close to $4 billion into building new spots and fixing up older ones.
At the end of the day, we hate to see anyone lose their jobs, but at least it’s not the little people this time around.
