If you live in Michigan and you find yourself unhappy, don't worry, it sounds like you're not the only one.

A recent study put together by WalletHub shows what states across America are the happiest. Unfortunately, Michigan didn't rank very high on the list. As a matter of fact, Michigan didn't even make the top 20 happiest states in America.

You're probably asking yourself the same question that I had. How in the heck do they even determine what states are happier when compared to others? I mean, it's an emotion after all.  While it's not a perfect method, they did seem to figure out the best way to determine the results.

In this study, WalletHub drew upon the findings of “happiness” research to determine which environmental factors are linked to a person’s overall well-being and satisfaction with life. Previous studies have found that good economic, emotional, physical, and social health are all key to a well-balanced and fulfilled life.

They basically looked at all 50 states across 30 key metrics, ranging from the depression rates, the percentage of adults feeling productive, income growth, and unemployment rates. If you really want to dig deeper into the methodology, take a look at the full study on their website.

Where Does Michigan Rank on the List of Happiest States in America?

According to the study, Michigan didn't even crack the top 30. Michigan came in at #33 out of all 50 states. It's a bit disheartening, to say the least
