Over the years Michigan has experienced a wide range of weather conditions on Christmas day. We've had our fair share of snowy, freezing, and rainy holidays.

Was there ever a time that we experienced a warm Christmas? Can you remember a time when we had spring-like conditions? Well, believe it or not, there was a time when Michiganders woke up to a warm Christmas and it was only 40 years ago.

I think it's safe to say that most of us would prefer to wake up to a white Christmas. However, the occasional warm Christmas would be a nice change of pace every once in a while.

When Was Michigan's Warmest Christmas and How Warm Did it Get?

Michigan's warmest Christmas on record took place in 1982. According to National Weather Service, the official record high in Detroit was 64 degrees, while in Flint it was even warmer as temps reached 65 degrees.

While it was a warm day, it was also a wet one. The holiday came complete with showers and Thunderstorms.

The following year was a completely different story altogether. Christmas of 1983 came with bitter cold temps. On Christmas Eve, Detroit hit a record low of -9 degrees. We had brutal winds that were averaging 25 to 30 mph. This put the wind chill at times of nearly 40 below zero. That was Mother Nature's payback from the previous year.

Even though a white Christmas is nice, I wouldn't mind a repeat of 1982. Just take out the showers and thunderstorms and replace them with lots of sunshine.
