World Population Review states that Plum Creek, a lumber company that later merged with Weyerhaeuser, became Michigan's largest private landowner in 2005 after acquiring an impressive 650,000 acres in the Upper Peninsula.
In 2015, Weyerhaeuser purchased Plum Creek for over $8 billion, making Weyerhaeuser the largest private landowner in Michigan.
