This lake is not only the coldest but it's also the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area.

What Michigan Lake is the Coldest in the Country?

If you live in Michigan it probably won't come as a shock to you that Lake Superior is the coldest lake in the United States.

If you've ever taken a dip in Lake Superior in the summer, you know just how ice-cold that lake truly is. It doesn't matter if it's the hottest day of the summer, you're going to freeze your tail off. Although, some people love swimming in Lake Superior and have no problem with its frigid temps. For me, it's just too cold.

What is Lake Superior's Average Temperature?

According to watertemperature.net, the hottest water temperature is typically reached in August with around 65.1°F. The coldest is in March with an average water temperature of 32.4°F.

Throughout the year, the water temperature of lake superior averages 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep in mind, those temps are only averages.

According to NASA, On July 19, 2022, the average surface temperature was 47.5°F. Only 1996 and 2014 exhibited colder temperatures on that date.
