$2 Million Mega Millions Winning Ticket Sold in Michigan

It wasn't the biggest fish in the sea, but a Michigan player managed to reel in a $2 million winning prize in Friday's Mega Millions drawing.

Potential Record-Breaking Jackpot

The Mega Millions jackpot could potentially break records this Tuesday (8/8) as the jackpot flirts with the game's record jackpot of $1.537 billion. No ticket matched all six numbers drawn on Friday night (8/4) meaning the jackpot keeps growing.

The largest jackpot in Mega Millions history was $1.537 billion, which was won in South Carolina in 2018. With last Friday's jackpot rolling over, Tuesday's estimated top prize currently stands at an estimated $1.55 billion, but the exact size of the jackpot can't be predicted until closer to Tuesday's drawing.

No one has matched all six Mega Millions numbers to take the game's top prize since April 18th of this year.

In January 2021, an Oakland County lottery club known as the Wolverine FLL Club nabbed a $1.05 billion prize. That lottery club was formed in order to withhold the identity of the jackpot winners. Although multi-state jackpot winners are prohibited from remaining anonymous, there is a loophole that winners can use. That process is explained in detail here.

Winning Ticket Sold in Michigan

Even though nobody snagged the big prize Friday, there were still nine winning tickets that matched the five white balls. Those tickets won the game's second-tier prize of $1 million.

One of those tickets was sold in Michigan to an online player. That ticket had the optional Megaplier (2x for the game) which means that ticket is a $2 million winner.

The $2 million winning ticket was purchased online in Freeland, Michigan.
