When parents get a phone call or an alert from their kids' school it can be terrifying. I'm not talking about those automated messages that tell you that your child is under 70% in one or more classes. I'm talking about situations involving active shooters.

Even when it's just a drill many parents, including me, think about what must be going through the minds of the kids.  We only had tornado drills and fire drills when I was in school. My dad told me about him and his classmates having drills where they would be hiding under desks in the event of a nuclear attack.  As if a desk will protect anyone from a nuclear blast.
