Through economic ups and downs, the Greater Flint Area has been known for manufacturing for decades. Now, a major technology player has opened a new, USA-based manufacturing plant in Grand Blanc Township.

New tech to be manufactured in Grand Blanc Township

"Broadband access and media distribution solutions" is what ATX Networks specializes in, according to their own information.

  • The facility at 10456 North Holly Road in Grand Blanc Township is part of a larger, complex. This project was announced in September 2022.
  • The facility is owned by Mara Technologies, a subsidiary of Invotek Group. Invotek Group is headquartered in Markham, Ontario, Canada.

What exactly will be made by ATX Networks?

In short, really nerdy and necessary technology.

  • GigaXtend HFC amplifiers and system amplifiers (and future evolutions of that technology) will be made in the Grand Blanc Township facility. Exactly what does that thing do? It allows broadband bandwidth to be expanded -- allowing businesses more capacity to meet data demands over the internet. Specifically, they build it to meet future needs. Then, they'll move on to manufacturing the next thing needed, etc.

What is HFC?

  • HFC = Hybrid fiber-coaxial is a telecommunication industry term for a broadband network that combines optical fiber and coaxial cable, according to Wikipedia. (It's tech cable companies have used since the 1990s... and for internet, too.)

Last December, Invotek Group USA Vice President of Operations, Jeff Gary, told Flint Side "We'll be the first plant of the USA group." That's promising news as technology needs around the United States will grow exponentially in the coming years. Manufacturing things closer to the need means shorter shipping times and... more jobs.

A Nostalgic Look Back Inside the Infamous Auker Mansion of Grand Blanc

The big house with the large gates on Belsay Road in Grand Blanc, Michigan has been as mysterious as the man who built the massive 14,000+ square foot home that resembled more of a palace than a Midwest home. The late builder Eldon Auker was known for his creativity and flamboyance on some levels, his mansion reflected every bit of that. With its 20 foot ceilings, majestic staircase, and a 3000 square foot bedroom, the home was a showplace. Sold in 2020, it's hard to know if changes were made to the once amazing estate, but it's exciting to be able to take a little look back in time to what once was.

What's Replacing Grand Blanc's Favorite Christmas Tree Farm

The former Trim Pines Farm, a favorite spot for families to cut down their own Christmas trees each year, has been sold and major changes are underway. The property will now serve as headquarters for a Flushing-based company as well as other businesses in the future.
