If Your Michigan Road is Problematic, Who Ya Gonna Call?
As Michiganders we deal with all kinds of problems with the roads. From the enormous potholes that develop after the multiple thaw and freeze cycles our state goes through to the washboard effect on rural dirt roads over time, who do you contact to try to fix the problems?
There are many spots throughout the state that can regularly damage unsuspecting drivers. This includes the problems with potholes on major thoroughfares such as the stretch of southbound Dort Highway's right lane between Maple and Hill. I'm not saying that Dort Highway is a dream cruise, but that particular stretch is absolutely horrible.
How Can Michigan Roads get So Bad?
Where I live in Mundy Township they have a mobile app allowing residents to posts concerns. Those concerns are then forwarded on to the Genesee County Road Commission. As a matter of fact after a long and grueling series of townhall meetings at the Mundy Township Hall, leading to my section of Cook Road being the only paved portion of Cook Road in the Township.
That reason came from so many complaints about the condition of Cook Road between Linden and Jennings Roads when it was still a dirt road and impossible to plow and never got salted. After a subdivision was put in during the late 90s, the road began to deteriorate after the large amount of additional traffic took hold.
Who Ya Gonna Call?
It depends on where you live. If you live in a township, you should contact your local County Road Commission. Most cities and villages have their own public works departments according to Kylie Dontje at the Genesee County Road Commission.
