Michigan Shoppers: Are You Eligible for a Settlement Check From Walmart?

Walmart shoppers who have purchased certain foods in the past could qualify to take part in a $45 million class action suit and may be eligible to collect as much as $500.

Customers who purchased certain weighted groceries or bagged fruit are eligible to be included in the suit.

Details of the Walmart Class Action Suit

The lawsuit claims Walmart falsely inflated produce weight and mislabeled the weight of bagged produce, resulting in inflated prices for customers. The retailer may have also overcharged customers for clearance items.

Who Qualifies to Take Part in the Suit?

If you purchased eligible weighted groceries from a Walmart store between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024, you qualify to be included in the settlement.

If you purchased an eligible product and have a receipt, you will be entitled to receive 2% of the total cost of the weighted good and bagged citrus items purchased. Your settlement will be capped at $500, according to the details posted on the settlement website. 

If you don't have a receipt (because who still has receipts from 2018?), you can still submit a claim for a payment of between $10 and $25, depending on how many products you claim to have purchased.

What's the Deadline to Qualify for the Walmart Settlement?

Customers have until June 5, 2024 to submit their claim. However, USA Today reports that the settlement has not yet been fully approved and a final approval hearing is scheduled for June 12 of this year.
