Popular Sub Shop Closes All But One Michigan Location
And then there was one. A popular New York-based sub shop has abruptly closed most of its Michigan locations, leaving just one Mitten State store.
What Sub Shop is Suddenly Closing Michigan Locations?
If you frequent the Metro Detroit area, you're no doubt familiar with Dibella's Subs. The chain - which actually started as a family-run grocery store in Rochester New York has become a staple across New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Connecticut, and Michigan.
As of last week, you could grab a Dibella's sub in five Metro Detroit locations. As reported by our affiliate station in Grand Rapids, the shops were previously found in Warren, Troy, Shelby Township, Bingham Farms, and Ann Arbor.
As of today, only the Ann Arbor location remains open. All other Michigan locations have been scrubbed from the chain's website. Multiple locations in the Indianapolis area have also recently closed, according to The Grand.
Dibella's website currently lists 39 locations in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan.
The Internet Reacts to Dibella's Closures
According to this Reddit thread, employees were given little notice that their locations were closing. One contributor notes that some employees were taken on by a nearby Firehouse Subs location.
The chain was highly regarded and praised for its outstanding bread. This Reddit contributor summed up his disappointment by saying,
"I guess I could see the writing on the wall, I’m not sure how they did with catering but whenever I went into a Dibella’s it was empty. The food was very good for the price and the bread was fantastic. Going to miss this sub place!"
